It's a part of a $17.6 billion stimulus package to keep the economy going through the coronavirus pandemic.

The Australian government's stimulus package included a one-off payment to millions of people to keep the economy going during the coronavirus pandemic.

That $750 payment is due to hit people's bank accounts from today.

It will be sent to 6.5 million Australians who have been classed as low-income earners.

The package is designed to give these people some cash so that they can spend it on things that will ensure the Australian economy doesn't tank during the Covid-19 outbreak.

People who will be eligible for the $750 include social security, veteran and other income support recipients as well as eligible concession card holders.

That means pensioners, people with commonwealth seniors health cards, people on family tax benefits, as well as those on the Jobseeker (Newstart) and Youth Allowance payments will also get the handout.

The full list of people who are eligible can be found here.

Anyone who was in that category on March 12 will get the money.

It will be transferred directly into the account of most recipients, meaning you don't have to do anything for the payment to arrive. Some might have to give the government a bit more information to qualify.

But, that doesn't mean everyone will get the payment today.

Treasury's website estimates 'over 90 per cent of payments will be made by mid-April 2020'. So, if it hasn't landed in your account today, then you'll just have to wait for it a little longer.

7News reports a second $750 payment will be made to pensioners and welfare recipients in July.

The payments are part of a $17.6 billion stimulus package.

It's not the only package of its kind unveiled by the government during this Covid-19 pandemic.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced a $130 billion operation to keep Australians being paid even if their business has let them go or closed their doors.

Eligible people will get access to a $1,500-a-fortnight payment called the JobKeeper allowance 'to keep Australians in jobs even when the work dries up'.

"We will pay employers to keep paying their employees, and make sure they do," Mr Morrison said.

"Our plan will see our businesses large and small right across our entire economy share the load with our welfare system to deliver these important income supports.

"Our JobKeeper plan sees every Australian worker the same way, no matter what you earn. There is not more support for some as there is for others."
