A driver from Scotland deliberately drove his lorry into a family home in East Kilbride, police have confirmed.

After an investigation was launched by the police force, emergency services were said to have rushed to the house on Lancaster Crescent.

The incident took place on Monday night (6 September) and residents were then evacuated from the premises.

One shocked eyewitness said the truck 'hit the house, reversed and then hit it again' before 'fleeing up the street'.

A neighbour told the Daily Record: "I seen all the lights flashing and looked out but we assumed it was a fire as there was a fire engine. Everyone was out on the street."

Another local said: "There's a lot of noise just now banging and drilling - sounds like they're maybe trying to stabilise the foundations to get the family's things out."

A third added: "I heard it last night - this street it quite quiet anyway. I heard a loud bang and I heard her (the woman who lives in the house) shouting."

The heavy good vehicle used by the driver was abandoned in a supermarket car park close by and police have taped up the section with a police car monitoring the area.

A Police Scotland Spokesperson said: "An investigation is under way after a lorry was deliberately driven into a house in Lancaster Crescent on Monday 6 September 2021.

"Police were notified around 11.25pm. No-one was injured in the incident. The building has sustained extensive damage and local residents were evacuated as a precaution. Enquires are ongoing."

This isn't the first time a driver had deliberately felt the need to smash into a building - back in 2019 a builder smashed up a Travelodge in a dispute over pay.

It has been claimed that the angry worker was owed £600 ($770) in wages that he hadn't been paid, before the incident which caused thousands of pounds' worth of damage to the newly built hotel in Liverpool.

Workers watched on as the orange digger mowed through the hotel's entrance.

As the digger is driven up the steps, it tears through the front door. Glass doors and windows can be seen to shatter as parts of the framework collapse.

One person can be overheard shouting: "That's what happens when people don't pay your wages, mate."

A source told the Sun: "Nobody could believe their eyes. The man just went crazy. Everyone said he'd had an issue over his pay and he was saying he was owed £600.

"But even if that's true, to smash up a building is just beyond belief."

A spokesperson for Triton Construction, the main constructor on site, said at the time their understanding was that a labourer who works for another groundwork constructor couldn't find his boss, who was due to give him his wages.
