Machine Gun Kelly has finally explained why he wears a necklace with Megan Fox's blood inside.

The singer, real name Colson Baker, revealed on Valentine's Day that he had started wearing the bizarre piece of jewellery.

In a post to his Instagram account, the 31-year-old shared some snaps of him and Fox, 34, together, as well as the necklace.

The caption read: "I wear your blood around my neck."

But since then, most people have been at a loss as to why the hell they decided it would be a totally normal thing to do.

Well, in an interview for the Ellen Show, Kelly finally came clean.

He said: "Well, she was actually going out of town to film a movie, and this was really new in our relationship.

"I didn't have a passport either, so she was going out to Bulgaria, and so I was kinda freaking out, like, 'You're gonna leave and I can't even come see you'.

"I mean, some people give a handkerchief to their partner, she gave me her DNA."

Fortunately, Kelly eventually made it out to Bulgaria to be with the Transformers star.

And it was all thanks to former US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

Kelly went on: "You know who helped me get a passport? Bernie Sanders.

"I haven't even talked to him since this happened. Thank you to the Bernie Sanders team for that.

"I made it to Bulgaria and the relationship's going strong, so thank you so much."

At the time Kelly shared a snap of the necklace, Fox also posted a photo collage of him, with the caption: "There goes my heart/ manifest outside of my body/ draped in the towering silhouette of a most unusually handsome boy.

"Magical and haunted/ kinetic and tortured/ ethereal and dangerous/ cosmic lawless eternal creative genius/ the journey will likely be perilous/ but there is no destination without him.

"Happy valentine's day rehab barbie."

But, weirdly, they aren't the first couple to have taken to wearing blood around their necks as a token of their love.

Famously, Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie used to wear necklaces with a droplet of blood contained within them as they walked down the red carpet.

Billy Bob later said that the whole thing was massively blown out of proportion, adding that they'd only smeared some blood on a bit of paper after jabbing themselves with a pen.

However, it quickly escalated in the press, leading Thornton to say: "But, by the time it came out in the press it sounded like we were wearing a bucket of blood around our necks."
