Son Climbs Up Hospital Wall Every Day To Watch Over Mum Dying From Coronavirus

A loving son clambered all the way up a wall so he could sit on the window ledge outside his mum's hospital room to spend time with her - doing so each night until she died.

Mr Al-Suwaiti, 30, wasn't allowed to visit his elderly mother, who had tested positive for coronavirus.

Refusing to leave his poorly mother alone in her room, Al-Suwaiti - from Hebron in Palestine, where there have been 9,744 cases of coronavirus and 67 deaths - came up with a brave idea, and decided to make his own way up.

He was able to speak to his poorly mother through the window, sitting on the outside ledge to spend quality time with her from a safe distance. Well, unless you count the sheer drop on the other side, of course.

From the little window ledge, Al-Suwaiti was able to be there for his mother and keep an eye on her, staying at her side as she dozed off.

According to Astro Awani, a hospital official said: "He spent most of his day there, observing his mother's condition from outside the window, before coming down when he was convinced that his mother was fast asleep."

Al-Suwaiti's brother was also quoted as saying that his brother found it hard to accept that his mother was ill, having battled leukaemia before being diagnosed with the deadly virus.

He said: "Our mother was also battling leukaemia prior to being diagnosed with COVID-19 a few weeks ago.

"When [he] was informed about our mother's death, he was angry and in shock."

He added: "Now he seems to have accepted the fact."

The brother also said Al-Suwaiti was the 'youngest child' and was very close to their mother following the death of their father 15 years ago.

Sadly, their mother, Rasma Salama, has since passed away.

The image of Al-Suwaiti on the window ledge began to circulate online, and soon went viral.

One post, which was accompanied by a moving illustration that showed Al-Suwaiti's mother as an angel, has more than 205,000 likes and 76,000 retweets.

Many people commented to share their own experiences with losing a parent, with one writing: "I'm so sorry. I lost my Mommy 2.5 years ago as well. Half your energy, soul and breath. I hate that we understand this. I hope you heal a little more today."

Someone else said: "This made me shed a tear. Lost my mum in 2014 and life hasn't been the same. I don't celebrate my birthday because hers is just 9 days before mine. The feeling of not hearing her voice anymore is totally devastating. Love and light to everyone who has lost a parent."

A third added: "It's been 4 years since I lost my Mom and 7 months since I lost my father. Nobody prepares you for being an adult orphan. I feel untethered, in the worst way possible."
