A father has died after allegedly being punched by his 25-year-old son.

Mark English, 53, was in a coma after the attack which took place on a street in Brisbane on Monday afternoon. He died on Tuesday in hospital, The Brisbane Times reports.

His son Morgan Isles-English was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm; reports state that the father and son had not spoken to each other in four years.

English was knocked out, subsequently falling backwards and smashing his head onto the footpath. He lay face-down on the street, while his partner performed first aid, before the ambulance arrived. He was taken to hospital, where he was placed in a medically induced coma, and passed away the following day.

Isles-English allegedly fled the scene but was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm on Monday night.

He was in Brisbane Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, where he was seen pacing, sobbing and hitting his head on the glass dock. He told a woman in the public gallery: "I love you, mum." The woman mouthed !I love you" back, but refused to speak when approached outside court.

Isles-English's lawyer, Brendan Beavon, asked for the case to be adjourned and did not have anything to say outside the court either.

The case has indeed been adjourned until Monday, 15 August but police are now considering whether to upgrade the charges.
