A man has been filmed whacking a fox carcass into a car being driven by hunt saboteurs.

The disturbing clip was filmed on Boxing Day in Kirk Smeaton, North Yorkshire, and shows a number of men approach the activists while attempting to cover their faces with their arms.

As the people in the car try to drive away one of the men begins to batter the dead fox's body into the vehicle.

The clip was filmed and shared online by Sheffield Hunt Saboteurs, who wrote: "The local scum were clearly unhappy not to see some actual hunting, so decide to be aggressive and block vehicles in and smash our window with a roadkill fox whilst also smashing bits off our vehicle."

One of the saboteurs can be heard saying: "F****** scumbags, absolute scumbags" as they get away from the scene.

Animal rights campaigner Charlotte Smith later uploaded photos of the car's windows smeared with, what appears to be, fox blood.

Fox hunting has been illegal in England and Wales since 2004, but drag hunting, where packs of hounds are trained to follow an artificial scent, is legal.

However, some animal right's campaigners claim this drag hunting provides a loophole for those who still want to illegally hunt foxes - as a result the hunts are often attended by hunt saboteurs who try to disrupt hunts if they suspect animals could be harmed.

Speaking to the Metro, a spokesperson from the Countryside Alliance, a rural campaigning group, slammed the behaviour of the men in the clip.

A spokesperson told the newspaper: "We condemn this utterly despicable behaviour by this group of individuals whom we are told are not connected to the hunt in any way.

"We understand these were local people whose appalling actions have brought hunting into disrepute and we sincerely hope they will be held to account."

Meanwhile, North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Police are investigating an incident in the Kirk Smeaton area that occurred at about 12pm on 26 December 2019. Enquiries are at an early stage."
