A man had his penis held to ransom for more than £700 after hackers managed to lock a digital chastity belt he'd been wearing.

The man had been wearing a device known as the Qiui Cellmate, a chastity cage that connects to the internet, which has billed itself as the 'world's first app controlled chastity device'.

He suddenly received a strange message on his phone via the product's app, with a stranger telling him they'd taken control of the chastity belt and wanted $1,000 (£729) in Bitcoin if he wanted control back of the device.

Speaking to Vice, the man recalled: "Initially, I thought it was my partner doing that. It sounds silly, but I got a bit excited by it."

However, when he called his partner and told her their safe word, she said it wasn't her - meaning it then dawned on him that he had been hacked.

He continued: "I started looking at the thing. There's no manual override at all. It's a chastity belt, I guess it kind of shouldn't [have an override.]

"But when it's a digital thing like that, it should have a key or something. But it obviously didn't."

The man admitted he 'started freaking out' and 'panicking', before realising he had some Bitcoin stashed in an old account.

He sent the hacker some of the currency, but they then asked for more.

The man and his partner ended up having to think of ways to get his penis out of the chastity cage manually. They only had a hammer, so popped out to purchase a pair of bolt cutters - which took a while to work.

Thankfully, they were eventually able to break the device, but the bolt cutters also ended up injuring the penis.

"I don't have a scar or anything but I was bleeding and it f***ing hurt," he said, explaining that he and his partner were unable to have sex for over a month.

After he managed to free himself, he threw the Cellmate away and deleted the app.

The incident also made him re-think how he uses similar devices - especially any that involve intimate areas.

He added: "If you're into it, that's fine, because you're into what you're into.

"But use a lock, a physical lock in case. These digital things, you cannot trust them.

"A stranger coming into that world that's supposed to be just you and you and your partner, or you and someone else."
