A man in Ukraine has had to be hospitalised after his wife reportedly put a metal nut on his penis.

The unnamed man, believed to be in his 40s, was woken up with pain in his groin area one morning, which was when he discovered his penis was being strangled by the metal ring, and had become very swollen.

The Daily Mail reports wife supposedly put it on his penis while he slept as punishment for being unfaithful.

The man tried to remove the nut himself, but failed to do so - in turn calling an ambulance for assistance.

He was then taken to hospital in the city of Zaporizhia, in the south of Ukraine, where doctors had to call on the services of a special rescue crew as they did not have the required tools to remove the nut.

Rescuers used a circular saw to cut the nut in two places so that they could take it off.

However, as you'd probably expect, the process wasn't quite so straightforward, given the, ahem, intimate nature of the procedure.

The saw started to produce hot sparks and the nut itself also began to heat up due to the friction, meaning rescuers had to douse the man's crotch with water to cool things down.

Thankfully, the bloke was under anesthesia while this all happened - and, better still, the procedure was a success.

Oleksandr Brienko, the rescue team commander, told local media: "We received a call from doctors who asked to remove the nut. We used special equipment to do the job. The man was lying on the surgical operating table under anaesthesia while we were cutting the object off."

Eduard Nekhoroshev, also from the local rescue service, added: "We often face similar incidents and are quite trained in removing rings, handcuffs and other objects off people's bodies.

"In this case, we actually saved the man's penis. He will be able to become a father in the future."

Now the anonymous man is undergoing treatment in the City Hospital, where doctors say he'll recover soon and regain full functionality of his penis.

Ukrainian media report that the man is now thinking of asking his wife for a divorce.
