In 2014, Tony Cowan, from Durham, was driving when he lost control of his car and crashed, leaving him with a serious neck injury, which left him paralysed and in great pain for the rest of his life, needing round-the-clock care.
After the crash, Tony's neck was effectively ripped from his spine.
Undeterred by this life-altering injury, he vowed that he would try and live as much of a normal life as he could, including enjoying every precious memory with his partner of 12 years, Karen Dawson, who was his full-time carer after the accident, reports the Mail.
The pain became too much for Tony with him ultimately asking for his life support machine to be turned off, but not before he married Karen.

She said: "We got married four days before he died in hospital.
"It was amazing and it was happy and sad because we knew what was coming. He always wanted to get married but we just never got round to it."
They got married in the hospital room with staff at the hospital kitting it out. They decided to bring the wedding forward from May because of the excruciating pain Tony was feeling.
He was buried with the wedding gown that Karen would have worn, had the ceremony not been brought forward.

Despite all the adversities he faced, Karen says that he still tried to live as much of a normal life as he possibly could:
"He just wanted to live as normal a life as possible,' she said. 'Even though he was the way he was he wanted a normal lifestyle.
'We would stay up late watching films, order takeaways. We were together all the time."
