A man who panicked and tried to swallow a bag of weed had his life saved by the state trooper who had pulled him over. You can check out the video here:

Dashcam footage shared by the Ohio State Patrol shows Trooper Charles Hoskin pulling over a man in a white car before approaching the driver's window.

Trooper Hoskin can be heard asking the motorist 'are you alright' and 'can you breathe?' as he urges the man to step out of the vehicle.

The two men then walk behind the car and the quick-thinking cop uses the Heimlich manoeuvre unit the bloke eventually spits out what was stuck in his throat.

The cop asks: "What did you swallow?"

To which the man admits: "I had a gram of weed on me, sir."

Later in the clip, as the man sheepishly apologises, Trooper Hopkins tells him he'll be checked over before giving him a bit of a ticking off over attempting to swallow the bag.

He asked: "Do you want to die over a minor misdemeanour?"

First responders were called out to the scene to check over the man, who was fine.

The man was originally pulled over after being clocked doing 94 miles per hour in a 70 miles per hour zone.

He was given a citation for speeding and failure to wear a seatbelt.

He also received a misdemeanour summons for illegal marijuana and was released from the scene.

Sharing the footage on Twitter, Ohio State Patrol wrote: "Don't try to swallow a bag of drugs prior to getting pulled over in an attempt to keep a trooper from finding them.

"Luckily, Tpr. Hoskin from our Ravenna Post was alert and able to assist the man who was choking on a bag of illegal marijuana."

Hoskin's quick thinking has been praised on social media, with one Twitter user branding him a 'hero' and another writing: "Bravo."

Someone else posted: "Nice work! God bless."

Medical marijuana is legal in the state of Ohio, but it's not allowed for recreational use.

A vote on whether to fully legalise the drug is set to take place this year, meaning Ohio could be one of the increasing number of US states to decriminalise weed.
