We all know someone who's claimed it didn't hurt even slightly when they got themselves tattooed, cheerfully sidestepping the fact that it's all done by a needle dragging in and out of your skin. But imagine the pain this guy must've gone through to get his penis tattooed.
Ray Houghton sat through a staggering four-hour inking session to get a tattoo on his genitals in order to complete his goal of having a tattoo on every part of his body.
Forget getting a sleeve tat, the 61-year-old (originally from Manchester) has a complete bodysuit which set him back an eye-watering £7,500 ($9,500), having spent a total of more than 240 hours in the tattoo artist's chair.
The process to be fully covered took Ray, who lives in Spain, two years - although, he says he only started the journey to get some 'embarrassing' tattoos covered up.
He said: "Those old tattoos were done when I was 17. They were disgusting. Now I'm proud to show my body off again and I can't wait to show people my body in full. I love it.
"None of the tattoos were really painful at all to have done, even this last one. I have wanted my penis done for three months but my normal tattooist wouldn't do it. I wasn't nervous, just excited to to finally get it done."
Ray has his face, hands and even his bum completely tattooed and explained he didn't feel complete with the bare skin on his penis.
"I feel complete when I look in the mirror now. It was the perfect Christmas present really," he added.
The tattooing done to his penis and testicles what done on Christmas Eve, with the help of none other than a rolling pin. Yes, you read that right a rolling pin.
Ray explained: "We used a rolling pin because that was the easiest way for the tattoo to be done. You can't just do it on a bench or work top. It was quite weird at first but it made a lot of sense. It worked out perfect really."
Although Ray claims the tattoo wasn't painful, he said he did feel some 'discomfort'.
"There was quite a bit of blood and it was uncomfortable to walk the next day," he added. Owch.
Getting older had really bothered Ray, but he said having the tattoos has given him confidence and a feeling of youth once more.
Ray said: "I had age spots and scars that I was ashamed of. But now I am proud to go along to the nudist beach. People tell me they can't believe how good I look for my age. I feel like a celebrity and I love people staring at me.
"I've been big all my life and as I got older people stopped telling me I looked good. But now I feel great again. I did lose a lot of confidence and I began to feel like an old man. What people think of me is important to me."
Tattoos aren't for everyone, but if they make Ray happy that's all that matters.
