Man Suffers Chemical Burns And Painful Allergic Reaction After Dying Beard

This looks so painful

A man was left in agony after he dyed his beard and suffered a massive allergic reaction.

Marno Botha, 21, and his Caitlynn Van Hecke, 21, thought it might be fun if he dyed his usually blond beard a deep black colour.

However, poor Marno ended up with painful chemical burns after leaving the dye on for too long and a bright red face from an allergic reaction to the dye.

If that wasn't bad enough, his chin, cheeks and upper lip became extremely swollen and Marno was left taking antihistamines for a whole month before his face went back to normal.

Marno from Vanderbijlpark, South Africa, said: "We dyed my beard in the afternoon and I woke up at like 3am with this intense itching on my face so I decided to shave my beard.

"I noticed my face had extremely red marks where the hair dye had been applied to my beard and then it started to swell up.

"I could barely move my face and the itching got worse so I went to the doctor who said I'd had an allergic reaction to the hair dye.

"I'd also suffered a chemical burn from leaving the hair dye on my face for too long."

Marno says he had previously had an allergic reaction to a henna dye but forgot all about it when girlfriend Caitlynn suggested that he dye his beard back in May. Yikes.

He added: "We just thought it would be fun and I could always shave the beard off - little did we know this would happen!

"Caitlynn felt really bad about how it all turned out and took extra good care of me."

Thankfully, Marno is now back to normal and has even managed to see the funny side of the experience.

"It took almost two months for my face to get back to normal," he said. "Luckily we had to wear masks everywhere so that helped a lot!

"My face was sensitive for weeks and the intense itchiness drove me crazy. I was embarrassed to go out in public but I tried to look at the funny side of it!"

Always do a patch test, guys.
