A man who slipped out of a window while trying to take a selfie is facing a fine as police discovered he had broken lockdown rules to attend the property. Bad day all 'round then.

Two women had to hold on to Anton Kozlov, 36, after he accidentally slipped from a window and was left dangling 150ft in the air.

Traffic cops in Moscow spotted the man hanging from the window and rushed into the high rise to try and save him.

Once inside the apartment, police could hear a voice urging the women: "Hold on to him girls." The man spent around 15 minutes dangling from the window before he was rescued.

A police source said: "The 36-year-old resident of Nekrasovka opened the window to take a selfie, but slipped out, clinging to the ledge with his hands."

The women were reportedly not physically strong enough to pull the man back inside.

It later transpired that the man and his wife had flouted the coronavirus lockdown to visit a friend and the couple now face a £44 fine.

Russia has seen a huge surge in coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, with 2,588 new cases reported.

It brings the total number of confirmed cases to 18,328, with 148 people sadly dying.

President Vladimir Putin today told a press conference that he is considering enlisting the army to help out during the pandemic.

Capital Moscow is the epicentre of the outbreak and has subsequently been placed in a strict lockdown with residents only able to leave their homes to go to their nearest shop or pharmacy, walk their dogs or take out rubbish.

The city has also implemented a digital permit system to keep a track of people's movements. Residents must apply via a special website if they need to travel.

Deputy Moscow mayor Anastasia Rakova has said that medical facilities are overstretched due to the virus, telling the media: "Our inpatient facilities and ambulance service are now working at their limits."

While mayor Sergei Sobyanin warned that things will most likely get worse, adding: "We are more in the foothills of this peak, not even in the middle."
