Chaos At Manchester Airport As Luggage Piles Up In Front Of Horrified Passengers

The footage, which shows a pile up of bags and suitcases, was filmed by a passenger and has led to more criticism of the airport and staff

When you step off a plane you don't expect to be greeted by red carpet but neither do you expect see your suitcase fly past your window at 40mph.

So after baggage handlers at Manchester Airport were caught throwing cases with abandon, earlier this month, you would think they would have learned their lesson.

But it seems despite claims that this was an 'isolated' incident and 'robust action' was being taken, there still appear to be a few teething problems at the airport.

This comes as more footage has been released showing piles of luggage falling off the carousels at the terminals, while passengers are still making their way through immigration.

At least staff weren't actively trying to damage cases this time. I guess that's a positive.

The chaos was filmed by Phil Bradbury who filmed the scene after he landed on Wednesday.

According to reports, he shared the video after seeing the Swissport handlers damaging a number of bags after chucking them from a plane, earlier this month.

Phil told the Manchester Evening News: "Another bit of quality service provided by Manchester Airport baggage handlers.

"One of the service workers looked, turned his back and then walked off.

"Another was sitting playing on his phone oblivious to what was happening."

Phil spotted the mess when he was picking his bag up from another conveyor, after flying in from Mauritius via Dubai at around 1pm.

According to the MEN a Manchester Airport spokesman said the pile-up was caused by a blockage.

He added: "On this occasion baggage was loaded, by handling agents, onto a carousel before passengers had arrived at the reclaim belts.

"Unfortunately a blockage occurred and some of the baggage ended up on the floor. We will be speaking to the handling agent concerned to ensure any future occurrences are quickly rectified."

Recently other passengers have been sharing photos of their damaged cases after flights landing at Manchester Airport.

After landing on their flight from Singapore, Craig Coop, 55, and his wife Susan, 34, came out to find their bags 'crushed'.

He told The Sun: "We were appalled to see our suitcases coming down the conveyor crushed. These are £200 bags. It takes some force to break the wheels and crush them like that."

Hannah Henry flew back from Palma in Spain on June 26 to find her bag was ruined.

The 21-year-old told The Sun: "I noticed straight away when it came off the conveyor. There was a big crack down one side."

They really need to take a leaf out of South African handler, Ephraim Sibeko, who doesn't leave anything to chance when it comes to looking after passengers' cases.
