A mayoral candidate in the United States was harassed by a drone-mounted dildo during a campaign rally. Watch here:

Bernalillo County Sheriff Manuel Gonzales III is bidding to become the Mayor of Albuquerque, in New Mexico, and on Tuesday (1 June) he tried to win the hearts of voters at the Revel Entertainment Center.

But while politicians must be braced for tough questions and hostile crowds, few are well-versed in the art of shrugging off flying dildos.

Gonzales was able to avoid an eye-prodding, but he did lose the attention of the 70 or so people who had gathered, with one woman reportedly asking: "Is that a dong on a drone?"

The airborne dildo was subsequently snatched from the air and confiscated, and a scuffle then ensued, during which Gonzales was allegedly punched in the arm.

It was an eventful event for Gonzales.

According to KOB 4, Gonzales said: "At some point, some people sprung up and they were carrying signs and it was a coordinated effort, very intentional and these people were trained.

"He tried to take a swing at me and he glanced across my arms and struck me, and I just took a step back. It wasn't anything I was very concerned about. I've been in a lot worse situations."

He added: "I understand the first amendment, and if you want to come to an event that we're hosting, you have the right to speak freely.

"But at the point where you commit a crime with the people that we have there, you're going to go to jail."

The dildo pilot and puncher was identified as 20-year-old Kaelan Ashby Dreyer, and he has been charged with petty misdemeanour battery, as well as misdemeanour resisting, evading, or obstructing an officer, according to the Albuquerque Journal.

Dreyer claimed that he did not punch Gonzales intentionally.

He also denied being associated with incumbent mayor Tim Keller, whom Gonzales speculated could be behind the incident.

Dreyer said: "Manny Gonzales is trying to associate me with Tim Keller or radical leftist behaviour.

"I'm not a fan of Tim Keller either and identify as libertarian."
