It seems that there are two things the majority of Melburnians can't wait to do amid the easing of COVID restrictions - get on the beers and shop at Kmart.

Following Victorian premier Daniel Andrews finally announcing that their 112-day lockdown would be lifted, social media went wild with eager shoppers expressing their joy at being able to return to their beloved Kmart.

"I am going to go to Kmart and touch literally everything," one Twitter user declared.

Another added: "I'm going to Kmart and buying twenty bras and kids shoes and then I'm going to get a massage and then I'm going to drink 40 whiskey sours at Dexter and then I'm going to book a weekend in Geelong."

Beauty and personal services will also return from Wednesday, also with COVID-safe plans in place including the use of face masks.

One Twitter user gave a sense of just how excited potential shoppers were to get to the store, posting a video of the insanely long lines outside one shop at 11:56pm, just minutes before they were officially allowed to open their doors to customers.

But those looking to get their mitts on some new items at the department store will now have to book a spot online in order to shop at their preferred Kmart store, with customers allocated time slots every 20 minutes to allow shoppers to arrive at the store within that time frame.

"We will open our doors on Wednesday 28th October, but for your safety, we will limit the number of customers allowed in a store at one time for stores located in Metro Melbourne," a message on Kmart's website read.

"Our Social Q app is here to save you time and get you into store as quickly as possible during busy periods - either use the app before you leave home to save your spot in store, or if there's a line when you get to store, use the app to save your spot without lining up."

Larger Kmart stores in Burwood, Campbellfield, Fountain Gate, Belmont and Werribee have now opened its doors as of midnight last night following Victoria's easing of restrictions, while the remaining stores across the state will open at 8am on Wednesday morning.

Happy shopping!
