SNP MP Margaret Ferrier has been arrested and charged following an alleged lockdown breach last year.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told LADbible: "We can confirm that officers today arrested and charged a 60-year-old woman in connection with alleged culpable and reckless conduct.

"This follows a thorough investigation by Police Scotland into an alleged breach of coronavirus regulations between 26 and 29 September 2020.

"A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal and we are unable to comment further."

This comes almost three months after the politician was suspended by the party after it was revealed she had travelled to and from Parliament from her constituency - making the return journey after she knew she had tested positive for coronavirus.

At the time, the Rutherglen and Hamilton West representative admitted she'd travelled from Glasgow to Westminster while waiting for the results of her Covid-19 test, then travelling back once she knew she'd tested positive.

However, she said she did not intend to resign from her position despite the controversy caused by her actions.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, Ms Ferrier said: "This has been an awful experience but I'll keep fighting for my constituents because that's who I am."

Ferrier continued: "A lot of people say Covid makes you do things out of character. You are not thinking straight. I'm not making an excuse.

"At that moment when I thought it would come back negative and it was positive I was utterly shocked. You could have knocked me over.

"While the last ten days have been a highly stressful situation I'm still continuing to work hard for my constituents while I'm unwell. I'm still continuing to work despite everything.

"You feel you are getting a lot of criticism from people you thought were your colleagues or friends who'd understand it was an error of judgement. I'm not denying that.

"People may be saying, 'You should have known better, you're a public figure'.

"But at the end of the day it still hurts. You then think about all that hard work and dedication - is that just wiped away?"

Ms Ferrier said she wasn't sure what to do when she travelled south, and thought she'd followed advice for MPs when heading back to her home in Scotland.

She added: "I think that's why I was so shocked and panicked on Monday night when I got my result and thought, 'How has this happened because I don't feel unwell?'.

"Over the last six months the regulations and guidelines have changed and been so muddled.

"I felt well when I got up on Monday morning. If I'd in any way felt any symptoms I would not have travelled, obviously."

Earlier today, it was announced that Scotland was set to go into a full lockdown from midnight tonight (4 January).
