The educational video was branded both 'awesome' and 'disturbing'

A woman who has filmed her and her four-year-old son 'performing a Caesarean' on a clay model has divided social media.

Jessica So, a 'doctor mom' from California, goes by the name The Breakfasteur on social media, and she shared the video online. It showed a playdough model of a pregnant belly, which was about to give birth to a Spider-Man stuffed toy, which was complete with an umbilical cord.

The educational video attracted thousands of likes and comments.

It was captioned: "Playdough Surgery. Cesarean Delivery. Our little guy just had a birthday (the big four!), and we reminisced about the eventful, unexpected day he arrived and the flurry of amazing people involved with getting him here safely.

"In our next case, a small superhero was born by Cesarean delivery (yes I know it was actually a radioactive spider).

"Superheroes are a common topic in our home these days. We talked about how being a superhero isn't just about having superpowers or abilities - heroes are made by using whatever power they have to help others, often at expense of much sacrifice and risk to themselves.

"To the OB/GYNs and FM/OBs who use their superpowers for their mamas and miracle babies (alongside a team of midwives, L&D staff!) - you are all heroes"

She added a disclaimer, which read: "The following video is intended for entertainment/educational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice."

In the video, her son gets involved and she passes him a toy clay modelling knife as they work the Spider-Man out of the model.

But some were critical of the video.

One person wrote: "I find this disturbing. Cesarean birth is still birth. This exercise ignores sacred element - as if it's any other surgery."

Another said: "There is no way to repair this disembodied abdomen, which is part of a human woman. Too much emphasis on the baby. I don't find it cute, it's actually a bit frightening."

A third replied: "WTAF? I consider myself a very progressive parent and embrace age appropriate learning for all topics, but this is just plain unnecessary & quite frankly a little disturbing."

But others were much more supportive of the video, which showed Dr So's adorable son wearing a Spider-Man outfit while he helped out with the play surgery.

One commented: "This was awesome! I'm surprised at the negative comments. I always used proper names for body parts, answered all questions when asked, and wanted my children to be comfortable with their life origins. I'm turning 60 next week. I have five grown kids and eight grands. Good job mom!"

Another said: "Holy COW this is amazing!! What a smart kid too!! CLAMP! Birthday Blessings!!!"

Someone else wrote: "My twins, born via caesarean, loved this video! Thank you so much for an age appropriate way to explain how they were born. They've been curious for a while, and 'someone pulled you out of mommy's tummy' wasn't cutting it for them!"

Dr So, a busy mum-of-two, told LADbible the reaction to her video has been 'unexpected'.
