A mum has shared her nifty trick to instantly get rid of pesky fruit flies that ALWAYS take over your home, and thankfully it's an easy one you can do at home too.

Tina Smith, from Dublin, took to Facebook with a photo of trapped flies, writing: "Anybody else getting these horrible little things? I don't have fruit and I'm getting them, disgusting."

It turned out people could relate, as the comments section soon filled with other people expressing their all-out hatred for the annoying small flies.

Tina had clocked them flying about in her kitchen and around her home, despite not having any fruit out for them to enjoy.

In a bid to get rid of them, she decided to fill a couple of tea cups with apple cider vinegar, covering them with cling film and poking holes in the top.

The thinking behind the process is that the flies are attracted to the sweetness and fly in to check out the sticky vinegar inside the cups, clambering through the small holes of the cling film - only to find they can't get back out.

Speaking to RSVP Live, Tina said the trick started to work almost instantly.

"Within the first half hour I had caught over twenty of them," she said, noting that from there it only took a few hours before they were gone completely from her home.

Tina added: "It's working so happy days."

According to Rentakill, fruit flies have the potential to 'cross contaminate food stuffs with bacteria and pathogens from unsanitary locations they've frequented such as rubbish bins, fermenting, decaying vegetation and drains'.

That means they're not only annoying, but also not great for sanitation.

Once hatched, the tiny fruit fly larvae feed directly on the over-ripened food, and if you inadvertently consume them, Rentakill says they can cause discomfort and diarrhoea.

Thankfully, Tina's shown there's a way to get rid of them using simple household items.

I mean, it's hardly surprising the hack works; we've all seen how obsessed insects get with our pints of beer when we're trying to catch some rays outside the pub, which MIGHT JUST BE THE MOST IRRITATING THING IN THE ENTIRE WORLD.

Maybe take a few teacups and a roll of cling film down to the pub with you next time you're on the sesh.
