Whether you've got kids or not, the likelihood is that you've seen the 'Elf on the Shelf' trend over the last few Christmases. And if you are taking part in it, by now it's likely that you're running out of ideas for how to keep the kids entertained with the elf's misadventures. Well, here's your answer - watch the video below:

Yes, thankfully, one mum has given everyone another option, and this time, the elf gets stuck in an electrical device - all you need is an Amazon Echo, commonly known to most of us as Alexa.

Sharing a video on Facebook, the mum (named Suz) explained how to go about the genius little trick.

She captioned it: "FYI to all parents using the elf this year. If you have an Alexa go to the app. Settings>my profile.

"Change your name to the name of your elf. Then go to messages (communicate).

"Type a message from the elf. Then ask Alexa: 'Alexa play my messages'. The elf talks to your kids."

It's as easy as that - simple, yet oh, so effective.

The elf now talks through Alexa.

In the video, the 'elf' can be heard saying: "I've spoken to Santa and told him that you were a good girl for Granny Linda and Aunt Ginny today.

"He says you have to go to bed nicely tonight and sleep all night."

Even better, if you accidentally miss a night, Suz also has you covered - on a previous message, she said: "Hi Sienna. I was too tired to move last night. Sorry."

So that's two days ticked off your list - another way of keeping the elf busy is to see the elf get 'trapped' inside your TV.

All you need is a smart telly and YouTube.

So tomorrow morning, maybe the cheeky elf can appear on the TV to surprise your little ones alongside the message: "I hit the wrong button on the remote... how do I get out of here?" Just don't forget to hide the real life little fella.

Get the elf stuck in the telly.

You just need to go onto the YouTube app and type in 'Elf stuck in TV', and Santa's favourite little helper will appear 'trapped' inside the screen.

Just like that you've got another day ticked off on the Elf on the Shelf calendar - don't say we don't do anything for you.
