Global star Phil Collins has been rushed to hospital following a nasty fall after his London concerts, The Sun reports.

The singer allegedly tripped over a step in his hotel room following his show, hitting his head.

According to The Sun, the former Genesis front man was taken to hospital with a badly gashed head and has been forced to cancel his forthcoming shows.

He reportedly requires surgery on his head, which is a worry for the musician, who already seems to be in poor health.

Late last year he announced he'd be returning to the stage, though he wouldn't be playing drums during the act. Instead he needs a cane and often sits down while singing.

"Phil is in a bad way with his head in bandages. He is conscious and talking, but he is frustrated and upset about having to cancel in his gigs," a source told The Sun. "He is keen to get out performing again as soon as possible, but the fall was quite nasty and he needs time to heal and rest up. He is struggling with his limited mobility as he has loved being on stage these past few days."

An official statement from Phil's team said: "We unfortunately have to announce that Phil Collins' performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London will be postponed tonight (June 8) and tomorrow (June 9).

"Phil suffers from 'drop foot' as a result of a back operation which makes it difficult to walk."

It continued: "He rose in the middle of the night to go to the toilet and slipped in his hotel room, hitting his head in the fall on a chair.

"He was taken to hospital where he had stitches for a severe gash on his head close to his eye and is recovering well. He will be kept under observation for 24 hours.

"Phil sends his sincere apologies and thanks to fans. He has had a fantastic week at his first shows in 10 years, cannot thank people enough for their warm reaction and is excited to return."

Get well soon, Phil.
