A couple got married in Philadelphia yesterday and then immediately joined in the Black Lives Matter protests.

Dr. Kerry-Anne and Michael Gordon tied the knot at the Logan Hotel, and were met with a round applause and cheers from the crowd as they left.

The protesters parted for the newly-weds who shared a kiss in the middle of the street before holding hands and raising their fists.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the couple then joined the march, which was heading from the Philadelphia Museum of Art to City Hall.

Speaking to ABC News, Kerry-Anne said: "It ended up being a very powerful moment. Not only are we feeling the movement of the people... but I'm meeting my husband, on our wedding day, as a strong Black man and a good representative of who we are as people, what our men are like, what our culture is like.

"It was just a very, very empowering moment for us considering all of this is happening at one moment in one time."

Her husband Michael added: "We all see this injustice. We all want to see this needle shift away from the status quo and ... that made this day more memorable in ways."

He went on to say that the protest had been peaceful and that he was happy their wedding snaps had been used to help boost that message.

"That's what the entire event out there was about. Of course there was police and National Guard, but it was a peaceful protest. Everyone was so nice," he told the news outlet.

"That in itself showed what the movement can be and for us to be a part of that, it's a positive thing."

Footage of the bride and groom has spread across social media, with one person commenting: "Congratulations to the beautiful couple! Such a touching display of love at a time when it's desperately needed."

Protests have taken place across the globe following the death of George Floyd while in police custody last month.

A heartbreaking and shocking clip showed the 46-year-old repeatedly telling white police officer Derek Chauvin, 'I can't breathe', while the cop pushed his knee into Mr Floyd's neck.

Three other officers - Tou Thao, J.A. Kueng, and Thomas Lane - looked on.

Chauvin has since been charged with second degree murder, while the three others have been charged with aiding and abetting second degree murder.
