The nurse who was forcefully placed in handcuffs and arrested after refusing to allow a police officer to take blood from an unconscious patient has been given a £375,000 ($500,000) compensation settlement.

Alex Wubbles was filmed on an officer's body-cam being dragged from the hospital she worked at, handcuffed and put into a police car by Detective Jeff Payne.

Almost two months later, she has agreed to the payout with Salt Lake City's local government and University Hospital.

Wubbles' settlement means she will not be pressing forward with any legal action against individual police officers, hospital security or the university police.

Detective Jeff Payne lost his job as a result of his actions in the video.

Her lawyer Karra Poter told the Independent: "There will be no lawsuit."

Wubbles said: "We all deserve to know the truth, and the truth comes when you see the actual raw footage, and that's what happened in my case.

"No matter how truthful I was in telling my story, it was nothing compared to what people saw and the visceral reaction people experienced when watching the footage of the experience I went through."

She now plans to use part of her settlement money to fund legal help for others who are trying to get body-cam video to secure convictions and give some to a nurses' union.

She has also said she plans to lead a campaign to help bring an end to nurses facing abuse while working.

In the clip, Wubbles could be heard trying to explain that hospital policy meant that she could only take blood from the patient with a warrant or consent of the patient - neither of which the officer had.

She can be seen speaking on the phone to her superior before explaining that the police officers don't meet the criteria for her to take the blood from the unconscious patient, who had been in a car accident.

It then gets heated, and the person on the phone can be heard to say: "Sir, you're making a huge mistake right now. Like, you're making a huge mistake because you're threatening-"

Before Payne is filmed attempting to grab the phone from nurse Wubbles and saying: "No, we're done, we're done - you're under arrest. I said we're done!"

She was then dragged towards the exit and arrested outside. Wubbles can be heard crying out 'help me', before breaking down and sobbing.

She was put in a police car for 20 minutes before being released. She was never charged with any offence.
