The pensioner who was arrested on suspicion of murder, after a suspected burglar was stabbed at his home, has boarded up his house due to worries of reprisal attacks.

Richard Osborn-Brooks, 78, was released without charge yesterday following the incident in which suspected burglar Henry Vincent was fatally stabbed.

Vans arrived at the house and began unloading boards to cover the property and cherry pickers were used to install CCTV, as the pensioner makes his house more secure after fears of a reprisal attack, the Mirror reports.

Vincent, who had a list of previous convictions, was stabbed to death after breaking into the pensioner's property in south London at 12.45am on Wednesday morning, armed with a screwdriver.

Osborn-Brooks, whose 76-year-old disabled wife was upstairs, struggled in the kitchen with Vincent, who fled the scene with his accomplice after being stabbed.

He was found around 200 yards away from the property, after it was alleged the other man had tried to drag him into a van, before giving up and leaving him there. He was taken into hospital in central London where he later died.

Speaking at the time, a Met Police spokesperson said: "The 78-year-old resident had found two males inside his address.

"One suspect went upstairs while the homeowner was forced into the kitchen by the second suspect, armed with a screwdriver.

"A struggle had ensued in the kitchen during which one of the males found inside the property sustained a stab wound to the upper body."

The pensioner was initially brought in by police, causing a huge backlash from members of the public who backed his right to protect himself and his wife.

A GoFundMe page set up raised over £7,000 ($9,860) to help the family with any legal costs.

However, he was released yesterday without charge.

A spokesperson from the Met Police said: "The 78-year-old man was told that, following consultation between the Met and Crown Prosecution Service, no action will be taken.

"Officers have also spoken with the family of Henry Vincent who died following the stabbing.

"They have been informed of the decision and the reasons for it have been explained to them."

It's seen been revealed that Vincent had a long criminal past, including a six year sentence after conning an 80-year-old widower out of £72,000 ($101,400) to replace a single roof tile, which would have cost around £50 ($70).
