What a time to win the lottery

If you were to win the Euromillions, what would be the first thing you'd do? Jet off to the Maldives? Throw a massive party? At the very least you'd get down to the pub to celebrate being rich.

But what happens when you win during a huge global pandemic where everyone is on total lockdown? Well - not a lot really. One Brit won an unbelievable £57,869,670 ($67m) jackpot last night - although they've still not come forward.

Of course, during times like these, when commodities like loo roll are potentially more valuable than money, people just had to take to Twitter to take the p***.

One person joked: "Winning £60 million would be lovely but you can't celebrate it with family and friends, you can't go on holiday to let it sink in, at least you can pay to reserve some toilet paper."

Another jibed: "Just seen someone in the UK has won almost £58m on the EuroMillions. Poor f***er can't collect the cheque for six weeks and then can't go anywhere apart from Blackpool or Margate for the next two years."

Someone else pointed out: "Shame they can't go to the pub to celebrate."

And even National Lottery got in on the joke.

When one person tweeted: "Breaking news, winner to spend winnings on loo roll," National Lottery replied, joking: "The softest ones imaginable!"

And although making light of serious situations is what Brits do best, it's important to remember how serious the coronavirus pandemic is.

The coronavirus death toll in the UK rose to 104 today, after NHS England said a further 32 people had died following a positive test in England.

According to the BBC, the NHS said patients were aged between 59 and 94 years old and had underlying health conditions.

According to the latest report from the Department of Health and Social Care, a total of 56,221 people have been tested resulting in 53,595 negative cases and 2,626 positive.

PM Boris Johnson announced today that officials are working to increase the number of tests that can be conducted by Public Health England and the NHS to 25,000 a day.

Scientists are hopeful that they're close to creating a coronavirus vaccine.

The increased capacity is expected to be ready within four weeks, with highest-priority cases being tested first.

The announcement follows today's daily coronavirus briefing, which announced that all UK schools are set to close as of Friday afternoon in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19), it has been announced today (18 March).

The decision has been made following staff sickness as many have been forced to stay at home and look after their relatives.
