After another ISIS terror attack in France this week and the violence in Turkey, it's hard not to conclude that right now the world is a more dangerous and frightening place than it has been for years.

But how can we respond to destruction, violence and loss of life on such a large scale?

#JeSuisCharlie. #JeSuisParis. #JeSuisBruxelles. #JeSuisOrlando. #JeSuisIstanbul. #JeSuisBaghdad. #JeSuisBangladesh. #JeSuisNice.

All these hashtags have trended on Twitter following each atrocity, and between them they represent at least 623 dead and 1,248 injured, spread across six countries over just the last 19 months.

But in the wake of Thursday night's Bastille day terrorist attack in Nice, a new, slightly different hashtag was born...

'We are tired. We want peace', the tweet reads.

Or as someone more bluntly put it...

#JeSuisEpuise, or 'I am exhausted', started trending on social media yesterday morning as the violence and bloodshed of Nice began to sink in.

#JeSuisCharlie trended after two brothers armed with assault rifles stormed the offices of satirical newspaper, Charlie Hebdo, shooting dead 12 people and injuring 11 others.

#JeSuisParis trended when 130 people were killed across Paris on the 13 November 2015. The streets of France hadn't seen such violence since World War Two. Nine terrorists working in three teams targeted a restaurant, the Stade de France and the Bataclan theatre, with 87 people killed watching a rock gig.

#JeSuisBruxelles trended when ISIS launched three coordinated nail bombings that targeted Brussels airport and a metro station on the 22 March this year. 32 people died and a further 340 were injured, as five terrorists attacked the two transport hubs.

#JeSuisOrlando trended when Omar Mateen, 29, opened fire in 'Pulse', a gay-nightclub in Orlando, when 49 people were killed and 53 wounded.

#JeSuisIstanbul trended when Istanbul's Ataturk Airport was attacked by three suicide bombers armed with automatic weapons on the 28 June this year, killing 45 people and injuring at least 230.

#JeSuisBaghdad trended when a suicide bomber drove a truck filled with explosives into a busy shopping mall. At least 292 people lost their lives and many more were injured in Iraq's capital.

#JeSuisBangladesh trended when Islamist militants killed 20 people inside an upmarket restaurant in Bangladesh's capital, Dhaka. Five terrorists held hostages from July 1-2 before the building was stormed by special forces commandos. 22 hostages and two police officers were killed in the ensuing gunfight.

#JeSuisNice trended this Thursday when a lorry was driven into a crowd at Nice's famous Promenade des Anglais. At least 84 people died in the Bastille Day attack.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for all of these attacks.

And now here we are, #JeSuisEpuise. EXHAUSTED.
