A plane carrying EU border officials has crashed in Malta, leaving at least five dead.

The aircraft went down in Luqa shortly after take-off earlier this morning. The Times of Malta reported a witness as saying it tipped to its right side and went 'straight down to the ground'.

The paper has also reported that a source has claimed there are no survivors. The nationality of the victims is not yet known, however, the flight was due to be heading to Misrata in Libya.
