Police are investigating reports of a knife being pulled on a shopper in the toilet paper aisle of a Sydney shopping centre.

A witness told radio station 2GB that six officers were at the Parramatta Woolworths in Westfield and had taped off the aisle.

New South Wales Police has confirmed an incident took place and Woolworths added to Yahoo News that a confrontation broke out between two customers.

A spokesperson for Woolworths told 10daily: "We're aware of an incident between two customers in our Parramatta store earlier today. Police were called in response to the incident by store security. The store remains open and is trading as normal."

An unnamed staff member reportedly told a man nearby that 'people were losing their s**t' after the incident took place.

A witness told Yahoo News: "People thought they were getting stopped from going down the aisle because there was no toilet paper."

Stores across the country have been bombarded with people panic buying supplies in case they get coronavirus or the disease causes a supply shortage.

People have been seen throwing dozens of toilet paper packets into their trolleys.

But it's not just toilet paper that is in short supply.

Supermarkets have been drained of hand sanitiser, pasta, rice and other essentials. Some cheeky people have even tried to flog these items online at exorbitant prices.

Facebook Marketplace has been littered with people trying to flog single rolls of toilet paper for $50 and whole packets for thousands. Surely no one would be silly enough to pay that amount of money but it certainly hasn't stopped some from trying to make money from this virus outbreak.

One person's ad said: "Due to the shortness of toilet paper, I have two and a half rolls. I'm selling it for the very cheap price of $150. They won't last."

There was even one advertisement that listed a 24 pack of 3ply toilet paper for, get this, $24,000. Why anyone would want to spend that amount of money on toilet paper, even in the worst circumstance, is ridiculous. Even if there was an apocalypse, surely you would just forgo wiping your bits with paper.

People have been using other sites like Gumtree and eBay to sell their panic bought items, however it won't last long.

eBay has stopped people from selling things like hand sanitiser at exorbitant rates.

A spokesperson for the website told 10daily: "eBay does not allow sellers to list items that attempt to capitalise on disaster or tragedy. These listings are in breach of our policy and are in the process of being ended.

"We have updated our filters to block listings in breach of our policy and are regularly sweeping the site to remove such items."
