A woman and baby boy have been taken to hospital after being stabbed in their London home. Paramedics and police arrived at the Feltham property last night after a 999 call was made from someone concerned for the pair's welfare.

A statement from Scotland Yard said: "At the scene a woman, aged in her 30s, and a one-year-old boy were found suffering stab injuries.

"Both victims were taken to a west London hospital for treatment. The boy remains in a critical condition. The woman's injures are not life threatening.

"Enquiries are under way to trace a man who was known to reside at the address. Work continues to establish the circumstances of the incident but at this early stage it is believed the parties involved were known to each other."

Residents concerned about all the flashing lights last night were told to stay inside for their safety.

A neighbour told GetWestLondon: "I live right where it happened. We have been told by police to stay in and lock doors as a man is still on the loose.

"The estate is taped off, and there is an armed response present."

No arrests have been made and the police investigation is still trying to work out a motive for the attack.

This is just another knife-related incident that the Metropolitan Police has dealt with this year, with more than 40 people killed so far in 2018.

Metropolitan Police Crime Commissioner Cressida Dick said: "I have spoken all too often at the anger I feel at the senseless waste of life.

"The frequency with which some of our young people are prepared to take each other's lives is shocking."

The most recent weekend saw eight people either shot or stabbed.

This has led to calls from MPs for police to be allowed more powers to crack down on the sprawling and increasing violence.

Conservative MP and former police minister Sir Mike Penning told the Express: "Police chiefs have got to give their frontline officers the confidence to stop and search while the CPS have to throw the book at those who carry and use knives because that's the only way we will have a deterrent.

"Unless that happens we are going to be in for a very difficult summer and years ahead."

Earlier this year, London overtook New York City for the number of monthly murders. London's homicide rate ebbs and flows with 184 killed in 1990, 139 in 1996, 204 in 2003 and 89 in 2012. But according to a Sunday Times report, it's ballooned by 40 percent in the last three years alone.
