An off-duty police deputy has been hailed as a hero after he saved the life of a baby who had become unresponsive in his mother's car.

Deputy Jeremie Nix gave the three-month-old child CPR and then sped the infant to the hospital so he could receive proper medical care.

The baby's mother Nechole Crowell spotted Nix's police car whilst driving and flagged him down to ask for help as her son, Kingston, had stopped breathing.

She wasn't left disappointed, the heroic Florida police officer stepped up to the plate and made sure that the kid was OK.

His police department, the Merion County Sheriff's Office, posted updates on the situation on YouTube afterwards.

They said: "Deputy Nix delivered the child to medical personnel, who then began treating the child. We are happy to report that Baby Kingston is doing very well and doctors say he will make a full recovery."

"Doctors also said that because of K9 Deputy Nix's actions, Baby Kingston is alive today. We are tremendously proud of Deputy Nix and we can already see that he and Baby Kingston will have a deep connection that will last a lifetime."

They also posted photos that show Deputy Nix smiling in the hospital next to the baby.

Another heart-warming shot shows the policeman holding the baby in his arms after the incident was over.

Kingston's mother Nechole posted her thanks on Facebook, saying that without his actions her child would not be alive.

Her post read: "Let me just say that yesterday God showed me just how real he was. My son King was barely breathing, and fighting for his life. My sister and I noticed an officer sitting at a red light and we got his attention.

"With his fast thinking he and God saved my son.... after his shift he and his beautiful wife came to Shands just to see him again. His word to me was: "Don't you worry, I will not leave until I help save your son'."

She continued: "God had me in the right place because he knew you needed me... THANK YOU OFFICER JAY NIX FROM THE OCALA SHERIFFS OFFICE K-9 unit!

"I just wanted the world to know how great this officer is, and how great God is........ not all officers are bad, he's one of many good guys KING & I WILL FOREVER APPRECIATE YOU."

What a guy.
