A porn director says allowing her staff to take 30 minute masturbation breaks has made them better at their jobs.

Erika Lust is the head of Erika Lust films, a production company that tries to revolutionise the adult industry, moving away from the clichés and dangerous, misogynistic stereotypes most would recognise.

And she recently announced that she was changing the work environment too, giving employees an extra 30 minutes a day to 'take care of themselves' - even setting up a private 'masturbation station' in the office for them to enjoy.

Well, a month on, and Erika says it's worked a treat for her 36-person team.

When asked whether the breaks have made her employees happier and more productive, Erika said: "Definitely, definitely. This is something that we're trying to do in general in our company, you know.

"The last year has been hard on everyone, obviously, and this spring has felt like a very long winter.

"I think that that was kind of one of the reasons why we said, 'Ok, team, take 30 minutes, go home, do whatever you wanna do'.

"Because I think that will help us all come out of that depression, and I think it did."

She added: "In the end it's all chemical, it's endorphins, it's the feeling of happiness."

But staff weren't obliged to take the extra time.

"It's quite a funny, quirky thing. This is not an obligation or something really public that is going on," Erika tells us.

"Because May is 'Masturbation Month', it's a month where we are talking more about masturbation. I always say that I think masturbation is a very important practice when it comes to sex.

"So I would really recommend people to take time to masturbate, to take time to pleasure themselves. And even if you are in a relationship with someone else, it's two very different things.

"So the whole idea was to tell our own staff that we appreciate them, we want them to have time, 'So this month take 30 minutes for yourself to find your own happiness'."

Speaking previously about the idea, staff at Erika Lust Films said they were over the moon with the idea.

While colleague Avril, a clinical sexologist and project manager of The Porn Conversation, agreed.

She said: "Masturbation has been shown to not only make you happier, more relaxed and more focused, but it's also good for creativity and increases your drive to get things done.

"Plus, it releases endorphins, helps to decompress and relieves tension and stress.

"Basically, it's the perfect medicine for a stressful day at work."
