US President Donald Trump's plan to build a wall along the border with Mexico has drawn praise and ire from different parts of America and the world. But for the first time, people can actually see what could be expected from the project, which Mr Trump insists Mexico will partly pay for.

A picture has emerged from the US Customs and Border Protection wing of the government, showing there would be 150 feet (45m) electronically monitored no-man's land between America and Mexico.

In a statement, a CBP spokesperson says: "These concrete prototypes will serve two important ends. First, given their robust physical characteristics, like reinforced concrete, between 18-30 feet high, the concrete border wall prototypes are designed to deter illegal crossings in the area in which they are constructed.

"Second, the concrete border wall prototypes will allow CBP to evaluate the potential for new wall and barrier designs that could complement the wall and barrier designs we have used along the border over the last several years. As the border security environment continues to evolve, CBP will continually refresh its own inventory of tools to meet that evolution."

There's no indication when the wall is expected to be built as the Republicans continue to be battled in Congress.

Trump has previously said it could cost $10 billion (£8.2 billion), but Mexico's former leader Vicente Fox Quesada has previously tweeted at the US President saying: "@realDonaldTrump's ego monument real cost is around 25 billion USD. I ask you, America, what would you prefer instead of that # FuckingWall?"

He then added a poll that included four options that included improving healthcare, affordable education, supporting agriculture and modernising infrastructure.

Mr Trump says that a wall won't be needed for the entire border, mainly due to the natural landscape: "You have mountains. You have some rivers that are violent and vicious. You have some areas that are so far away that you don't really have people crossing. But you'll need anywhere from 700 to 900 miles."

Trump said having the fencing made see-through would be essential for health and safety reasons. "As horrible as it sounds," he said. "When they throw the large sacks of drugs over, and if you have people on the other side of the wall, you don't see them.

"They hit you on the head with 60 pounds of stuff? It's over."

But as parts of the US continue to grapple with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, and the continue bickering in Congress, it's unlikely that there will be much movement on the issue for some time.
