Ralph Lauren Is Selling £620 Paint-Splattered Overalls

Looking like a grafter doesn't come cheap for rich people

Social media users have been left confused after Ralph Lauren started selling a pair of £620 overalls with fake paint stains.

The blue denim boiler suit has splatters of paint over it, as well as dirty marks on the knees - just like a painter and decorator would get from kneeling down during a hard day's graft.

The description on the Ralph Lauren website reads: "Made from Japanese cotton satin with the reverse side facing out. Utility pockets. Allover paint splatters."

The irony of paying top dollar to look like you do normal work for a living didn't go unnoticed by many, who commented on the outfit.

One person said: "Come on all you painters and decorators, sell your kit on e-bay and make a fortune out of the idiots. Yay!"

Someone else commented: "But unless there is a visible label, how will anyone know you were stupid enough to fork out £620 on something you could have bought for a fraction of that. They look identical to the set I've had for years."

Another joked: "I bought a pair of these without the paint, for £10 last year from a charity shop."

They're not the first high-end designer to try to emulate dirty clothes.

Gucci for example, recently released a pair of jeans, that really channeled 'playing footy as a kid', and were covered in grass stains.

The iconic Italian label has unveiled its A/W collection and in among the autumnal tones is a distressed blue denim that also has an interesting tinge of green.

While most of us would get these stains for free during some fun in a park, Gucci wants people to pay a cheeky £937.

The brand has released a description for the new look and it's... interesting.

"Channelling the Fall Winter 2020 collection's grunge vibe, this wide-leg denim pant is crafted from organic cotton specifically treated for a stained-like, distressed effect," Gucci said.

"Gucci explores new takes on the cult fabric, reinterpreting it with different designs and washing techniques that blur the line between vintage and contemporary."

It's unclear how Gucci has managed to get this fresh-from-sliding-on-your-knees-on-the-oval look but you'll be required to pay top dollar for it anyway.

The jeans are made from recycled material and comes with a Gucci logo on the back pocket for anyone doubting how much money you have.
