A robber confronted a homeowner with a meat cleaver and demanded he give him his car keys - only to realise he was threatening his own cousin.
Nikki Edmunds, 32, used the 10-inch blade to threaten his cousin Sam Rose while shouting threats at Rose's home in Pontllanfraith, South Wales. When he realised who it was, he fled.
A court heard he pointed the blade at the homeowner shouting: "'Give me your car. Give me your car keys."

When he clocked his own family was trying to rob his car, Rose said: "Wow, Nik, it's me."
Edmunds, obviously regretting his decision said: "F***, it's you," before running away.
Wearing a scarf over his face, the attacker approached Rose's house and removed it as he started threatening him, Cardiff Crown Court heard.

Richard Ace, prosecuting, said: "The defendant was almost face-to-face with the man and held the meat cleaver and pointed the blade towards him. The weapon was described as being 10 inches long.
"Edmunds told Mr Rose: 'Give me your car! Give me your car keys!'. The defendant then removed the cover from his face and the complainant recognised him and that they were distantly related.
"He told him, 'Wow Nik! It's me!' The defendant replied: 'F***! It's you' and then he fled."
Judge Paul Thomas QC described the incident between Edmunds and his relative as 'most bizarre'.

He said: "You threatened him with a weapon and it was in his own home. It turned out he was a relative of yours and you fled."
On the same day, just 20 minutes before the incident with his cousin, Edmunds had also threatened a motorist with his meat cleaver during a road rage incident.
The other victim of Edmunds was Gerald Wilson. He was driving with his son-in-law as a passenger when Edmunds and his girlfriend Kerry Jones walked into the road as the motorist was trying to get past.

Mr Wilson shouted at them to get out of the way before Edmunds dragged him out of the car and began slashing at him with his meat cleaver and a metal bar.
Mr Ace said: "The defendant began to hit him with the weapons as the complainant put up his arms to protect himself.
"He thought he was going to die. His son-in-law shouted at the defendant to get away from him.

"Edmunds hit Mr Wilson two or three times with the meat cleaver before he managed to run back to his car.
"Jones tried to block him and he grabbed her and threw her aside before he got back inside the vehicle."
He pleaded guilty to attempted robbery, affray, possessing an offensive weapon, criminal damage and dangerous driving and was jailed for four years and eight months. He was banned from driving for two years and four months.
