When it comes to thieves, you'd imagine they assess their targets and prey on the vulnerable.

But this robber got more than he bargained for when he set his sights on Claire Quinn who, unbeknown to him, is a Golden Glove boxer who can throw a mean punch - to the balls, that is.

Claire Quinn was the wrong person to target.

The alleged mugger tried to grab Quinn's phone on the streets of Chicago as she walked to the gym one morning - and she ended up unleashing a barrage of blows with earth sac-shattering force.

Speaking to Block Club Chicago, the 26-year-old said: "I just kept throwing my right hand to his balls. There's no way to sugar coat that or put it nicely.

"If I'm gonna be defined, it's going to be as the girl who punched the guy in the d**k. It's not gonna be, 'Oh, she was a wimp. She was a victim of a crime.'"

Claire Quinn wasn't going to be known as a 'victim of crime'.

According to The Sun, Quinn was left with mild concussion and bruising when a teenager asked her for directions to the Nike shop, before an older man came up behind and sucker-punched her in the head and demanded her mobile phone.

She said: "He punched me the one time really hard, and then after that I just kept throwing my right hand into his groin.

"My right hand knocks girls out. My last four or five fights have been TKOs (technical knock-outs). It can do some damage. Eventually I connected enough that he stumbled away from me."

Speaking to ABC7 Eyewitness News over the phone, Quinn said: "I could have just given him my phone, but you laid your hands on me. I'm not going to take that."

Quinn was attacked on the streets of Chicago.

Police have yet to arrest anyone for the attempted mugging but all Quinn wants to do is get back to the gym. She explained: "It's like my second home. There's always something to work on. Boxing's very technical. Punching a guy in the groin wasn't very technical, but it did the job."

Quinn's trainer, Lalo Beas, told ABC7: "She would stop me in my tracks with her right hand. She was holding the phone with her left. Right away she started hitting him wherever she could, and the nearest spot was the groin area.

"She was just relentless with as many punches as she could possibly throw. He messed with the wrong girl, and she had some skills."
