Like father, like son

Robert Irwin has shared footage of a nasty encounter he shared with a carpet python.

The wildlife warrior was filming an episode for the Animal Planet series Crikey! It's the Irwins, and wanted to demonstrate how large this type of snake can get.

In a clip posted on his Instagram, Robert can be seen holding a carpet python. As he gently takes the snake out of its safety bag, he asks the reptile: "Are you going to be grumpy or are you going to be nice?"

He adds: "It's alright, you're going to go back home. There you go, buddy. There's a good snake."

Robert then says to the camera: "Aren't they just the coolest? I love carpet pythons. That is a good size carpet python. That's so cool. I've got to tell you, when I first found this guy..."

But before he can continue, the snake gets feisty and bites his face.

The clip then cuts to a very similar incident involving Steve holding a snake while filming The Crocodile Hunter, filmed years earlier.

As Steve talks to the camera, the snake lunges towards his face and nips him close to his eye. In classic Irwin style, Steve casually calls it a 'son of a gun' (although some people think he may have said something else) and carries on talking like it was no big deal.

Sharing the clips on his Instagram, Robert wrote: "Wait for it. After a snake rescue with this cheeky carpet python while filming for Crikey! It's the Irwins it brought back fun memories of a very similar situation that happened decades before in one of the original Crocodile Hunter documentaries! Maybe it was her way of saying 'thanks' for being rescued!"

Despite just being 16 years old, Robert is fast filling his dad's famous shoes.

The crocodile hunter's son also decided to recreate an image of his dad feeding a croc.

Robert posted a side-by-side image of the pair, alongside the caption: "Dad and me feeding Murray... same place, same croc - two photos 15 years apart."

Followers were quick to praise the star and show their support, with one person writing: "So special, and so much style mate."

Another summed it all up by adding: "Can't begin to imagine how proud he would be Robert."
