Former TV star Rolf Harris, 86, has been cleared of three sex assault charges at a UK court.

However, the jury at Southwark Crown Court failed to return a verdict on four other counts.

Harris is currently in jail following a 2014 trial which saw him convicted of 12 sex offences against four female victims, one aged as young as seven or eight.

Harris went on trial facing seven counts of indecent assault and one alternative count of sexual assault, allegedly taking place between 1971 and 2004.

He has been cleared of indecently assaulting a 12-year-old girl but he could still be convicted of attacking the girl when she was older.

The jury has not reached a verdict on an additional count in relation to the same victim which alleges he attacked her when she was under the age of 16.

Harris is alleged to have assaulted the young autograph hunter at Radio Victory in Portsmouth in the summer of 1977.

The jury took 26 hours and 16 minutes to reach a decision on count two, deciding she must have been over 13 at the time of the alleged offence, but they are still considering if the alleged crime took place when she was under 16, but over 13.

At Southwark Crown Court, the foreman announced they still could not reach unanimous verdicts on the remaining charges against Harris.

Harris will remain in prison following his conviction of 12 counts of indecent assault in 2014.

Seven of the 12 charges involved allegations of a sexual relationship between Harris and one of his daughter's friends. Six charges related to when she was between the ages of 13 and 15, and one when she was 19. Harris denied that he had entered into a sexual relationship with the girl until she was 18.

Harris was sentenced to a total of five years and nine months in prison for the offences.

Harris denies the latest charges, and maintains his innocence in the cases of which he has been convicted.

Until his arrest in 2013, Rolf Harris had been a fixture on screens in Britain since the 1950s.

A successful musician and artist he enjoyed chart hits with singles including 'Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport', 'Two Little Boys', and 'Stairway to Heaven'.

The BBC commissioned Harris to paint a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II to mark her 80th birthday in June 2006, which was documented in the programme The Queen By Rolf.

He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) on 17 June 2006, having previously been created a Member (MBE) in 1968 and an Officer (OBE) in 1977.
