A Russian lieutenant decided to propose to his girlfriend in the most on-brand way, having arranged 16 military tanks into a heart shape as he popped the question.

Platoon commander Denis Kazantsev had managed to get the collection of T-72B2 tanks into a heart formation at the Alyabino training ground near Moscow on Thursday 13 February.

Russian TV channels - including Zvezda, owned by the Russian Defence Ministry - were there to capture the moment on camera.

The footage, which was released by the Russian Ministry of Defence on Valentine's Day, shows Kazantsev guiding his girlfriend Alexandra Kopytova into the centre of the tank-heart as she keeps her eyes closed.

He then gets down on one knee and proposes, holding out a bunch of roses.

Telling her how much they've been through together as a couple, Kazantsev tells Kopytova he has 'so many nerves', before saying: "That is why I want to create a family with you and to live a happy long life together. Marry me?"

His girlfriend Alexandra Kopytova naturally said 'yes' - not that this will come as a surprise to Kopytova, as the pair have already been married for a year.

He revealed to Metronews.ru this was actually the second time he had proposed to Kopytova.

The first proposal took place on 31 December 2017 and the pair registered their marriage one year later. They were previously in a long-distance relationship, but moved in together six months ago.

Lt Kazantsev said: "I postponed the proposal for about one month to organise all this so it would be unforgettable, once in a lifetime.

"It was not easy but with time my commanders agreed to let me do this."

Kopytova added: "I'm overwhelmed by emotions.

"I don't understand what is going on, it's so unexpected."

While the tanks might seem a bit ominous to some people, at least the proposal wasn't quite as intense as the guy who set up a fake armed robbery in a shop to ask his girlfriend for her hand in marriage.

Footage shared from the store's CCTV shows the unnamed man picking up some groceries with his girlfriend, before an armed robber storms in and pushes them to the back of the store.

As the woman sobs, fearing she may never see another day, the thief eventually approaches them and hands a ring box to her partner who bends down and pops the question.

While many, many women may have ditched him right there, she eventually calms down and says yes.

In another video, the anonymous man explains his rationale by explaining he's already warned her he didn't want to propose in the traditional manner - to which she agreed.

"My math was off. Way off. Horribly off," he admitted, before proposing a second time to make up for the whole fiasco.
