The King of Saudi Arabia has issued a decree allowing women to drive, state media has said.

The change will come into place in June of next year and was announced on state television and in a simultaneous media event in Washington.

Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam, is a Muslim monarchy ruled according to Shariah law.
