On the official website for forthcoming movie Candyman - a direct sequel to the 1992 horror film of the same name - you can unlock its final trailer by speaking into your computer's microphone and repeating the title five times. Well, you could also watch the trailer below, of course:

Yes, if you actually say 'Candyman' five times, you might actually get something from it for once.

Confused? OK - basically, according to the lore of the revived film series, Candyman is the ghost of an artist and son of a former slave who was brutally murdered over an interracial love affair in the 19th century. Say his name five times in front of a mirror, and you'll summon him.

Oh yeah, and then he'll murder you. Intense.

Back in the real world, if you repeat his name five times into your computer/phone microphone while visiting the movie website, you 'summon' the trailer - and once you've done it, you can save and share your summoning session.

Don't worry though, the website asks for permission to use your microphone and camera.

Some fans on Twitter seemed too scared to try it, as one user wrote: "You couldn't pay me to do this."

While a second person added: "Nope...I'll just wait. Not taking any chances!"

A third simply decided: "I guess it won't get watched by me!"

Unfortunately, the trailer doesn't actually contain any as-yet-unseen footage from the film, but it's a nice bit of spooky fun while we wait for the new flick to land.

The 2021 version of Candyman tells the story of artist Anthony (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and his girlfriend Brianna (Teyonah Parris), who have just moved into a luxury condo in the Cabrini neighbourhood in Chicago.

As fans will know, that's where the bloody events of the original 1992 film were set.

Anthony hears about the urban legend of the Candyman - and becomes obsessed with investigating the story.

Inevitably, it seems things don't go too well for him - the trailer footage shows him saying: "I think I made a mistake."

Yeah, sounds about right.

The upcoming American horror film is directed and co-written by Nia DaCosta and Oscar-winning writer Jordan Peele (the brains behind Get Out and Us), with a synopsis saying the new version 'unleashes a fresh take on the blood-chilling urban legend'.

The reboot hits US and UK cinema screens on 27 August 2021
