CCTV footage from a convenience store in Alberta, Canada, has revealed the desperate - and slightly bizarre - attempts that two suspects made to apparently evade arrest by a police officer.

I mean, we've all experienced desperate times, but those usually involve eating half a tin of beans for your dinner when you're absolutely skint. These guys took things to a whole new level, with one of them trying so hard to escape arrest that she ended up falling through the ceiling in a very spectacular manner. Not so subtle, eh?

The 29-year-old woman fell through the roof of convenience store King Street Reddi Mart, before being arrested without further incident.

She was with a 28-year-old man, who CBC News reports was tasered and then wrestled to the ground by an Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer and the store owner.

The shop's owner, Paul Chauhan, said that he grew suspicious of the couple when the man tried to buy a can of fizzy drink by tapping a credit card, which was declined by the machine several times.

Chauhan suggested he inserted or swiped the card instead, but the bloke said it was his girlfriend's card and that she was at work. He then left the store - which was when he Chauhan spotted him hanging out with a woman, who he assumed was the aforementioned girlfriend.

Suspecting the couple were in possession of a stolen credit card, Chauhan then called the RCMP.

"RCMP Spruce Grove detachment is the best people and especially the constable who came on the scene," Chauhan told CBC News

"He worked really, really hard to keep the people safe."

The woman and man, both from Edmonton, have since been charged with multiple counts, including using a stolen credit card, resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer, attempting to disarm a police officer and resisting arrest from someone aiding the police.

"As the RCMP member attempted to detain both suspects, the male pushed the female suspect at the officer," RCMP spokesperson Constable Shelley Nasheim explained in a news release.

"The business owner provided valuable assistance to the responding RCMP member which was instrumental in helping with the apprehension of both suspects," she added.

Nasheim also said that the two had fought with the officer in an attempt to escape their arrest, but that nobody involved was significantly injured.

While the officer and shop owner wrestled with the man, the woman ran off towards the store's back room, where she scaled a ladder and climbed up above the ceiling tiles.

When more officers arrived on the scene, she came crashing through the ceiling into a row of metal shelving - even losing a shoe in the process - before being finally arrested.
