A Manchester United spokesperson has given us the news that we all wanted to hear, explaining that Sit Alex Ferguson's surgery has gone 'very well' after the club's most successful boss was rushed to hospital last night to receive emergency treatment for a brain haemorrhage.

The spokesperson said: "Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone emergency surgery today for a brain haemorrhage.

"The procedure has gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to optimise his recovery. His family request privacy in this matter.

"Everyone at Manchester United sends our very best wishes."

In a later tweet, the club also wished Ferguson a 'comfortable, speedy recovery'.

Sir Alex Ferguson was rushed to hospital yesterday morning to receive 'emergency surgery'.

An ambulance was reportedly called to his Cheshire home at 9am yesterday, before he was taken to Macclesfield District Hospital. He was then transferred to Salford Royal Hospital, accompanied by a police escort.

Ferguson is now in intensive care, with the world praying that the sporting hero pulls through.

Football fans, players and managers across the globe have been passing messages of love and support to the Manchester United great.

Ex-England captain David Beckham posted a heartfelt picture on Instagram from their early days at the club with the caption: "Keep fighting Boss.. Sending prayers and love to Cathy and the whole family x @manchesterunited".

When Ferguson announced his retirement, Beckham said in an interview with Sky Sports that his former boss meant 'everything' to Manchester United.

He added: "Sir Alex Ferguson is that kind of figure [similar to Sir Matt Busby], he's that important to Manchester United and he will continue to be the legend he is. He will continue to be the legacy he is with that club.

"Whether he's manager or not manager, that will never change. The impact he has with the team, the impact he has with players and fans, I don't think there's anyone around in football that's had that impact, ever."

United's club captain, Michael Carrick, also said he was 'devastated' to learn his former manager had needed emergency surgery.

Liverpool Football Club, Ferguson's greatest rivals, posted a lengthy message in honour of the Scot.

It read: "The thoughts of everyone at Liverpool Football Club are with Sir Alex Ferguson and his family following the news that the former Manchester United manager is ill in hospital.

"A great rival but also a great friend who supported this club during its most difficult time, it is hoped that Sir Alex will make a full recovery.

"In the meantime, the club will offer its full support to Manchester United and also his family."

We wish Fergie a speedy recovery.
