A plane has crashed into a house in New Jersey, according to reports.

The Cessna 414 twin engine aeroplane is thought to have collided with a property at 11am local time today (29 October).

At least two houses are said to be on fire.

The US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) said that the plane crashed into the houses on Berkley Avenue in Colonia, and images from the scene show emergency services first responders on the scene in a residential area as the fire engines present attempt to put out the fire.

An NBC New York reporter on the scene reported that there were 'very heavy flames and very heavy black smoke coming up from the fire'.

It isn't known how many people were aboard the plane at the time of the crash, or how many people - if any at all - were inside the house when the incident occurred.

There is currently no information about casualties.

The FAA are currently heading towards the site of the crash, as are the National Transportation Safety Board, who will conduct an investigation.

Linden Airport is the closest airport to the site of the incident. At the time of the crash they were reporting good conditions including calm winds, two miles of visibility and a ceiling of 700 feet.

A source told CBS News that the plane was reportedly heading towards Linden Airport.

An FAA statement read: "A Cessna 414 crashed into a home on Berkley Avenue in Colonia, N.J.. at 11am today.

"Local authorities report that the house is on fire. Check with local officials for information about the scene, the number of people aboard and their conditions.

"The FAA is en route to the scene to begin the investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board also will investigate and will determine the probable cause of the incident."
