A Spanish bullfighter was gored to death on live TV as his friends and family watched on from the crowd.

Victor Barrio, 29, was killed after am 87-stone bull punctured his lung and severed an aorta during the bullfight in Teruel, Aragon, in eastern Spain.

His wife, Raquel Sanz, 32, was sat horrified in the crowd as she saw her husband's lifeless body on the ground, according to El Espanol.

The matador was taken to hospital but he was already in cardiac arrest by the time he arrived and there was nothing doctors could do to resuscitate him.

A doctors report claimed Barrio was gored in the right chest and despite undergoing immediate resuscitation and intubation his life could not be saved.

Below is the video of the incident which, I warn you now, has some graphic scenes in...

According to El Mundo, the bull called Lorenzo had been struggling against Barrio in the fight prior to a gust of wind affecting his waving of the crutch which gave the bull its chance.

Cultura claim the lineage of Lorenzo is set to end as his mother will now be sent to the slaughterhouse.

Deaths from Spain's famous bull runs are relatively common, with around ten people dying every year, but matador deaths are far less common.

Barrio is the first matador to die since 1985.

It may not be a tradition anybody outside of Spain is particularly keen on continuing, but remember a man has lost his life and a wife has lost her husband.

A tragic event all round.
