Paramedics feared a student had died when they found her covered in blood after she crashed her car.

But little did they know that Sidney Wolde was actually on her way home from a Halloween party, where she had gone dressed as iconic horror character Carrie. So, thankfully, the blood was fake.

Sidney had just been supporting a local theatre production - a musical version of Stephen King's acclaimed horror story - earlier that night.

But as she was dressed in a white dress and tiara, with her face caked in 'blood', first responders were convinced the crash had been fatal.

The young student from West Virginia in the United States, later took to Twitter to tell the tale of her bizarre Halloween.

Posting a photograph of her wrecked car, she said: "If anyone wants to know how my weekend went I totalled my car while dressed up as Carrie and everyone who was a first responder thought I was dead HAHAHAHA IM SO SORRY."

She added: "It's just funny because I looked terrible. God was looking out for me."

The post has since received hundreds and thousands of comments and likes, with people wanting to know more about her ordeal.

Thankfully, Sidney was happy to speak about it, explaining that the crash happened after a 'deer ran in front of [her] car'.

She went on: "Everyone is asking for the backstory so here it goes. I was promoting Carrie the Musical at a haunted house. At the end of the night, I was too tired to shower and remove my makeup so when I wrecked the first responders saw my blood and freaked.

"Waiting for my parents to come pick me up from the scene, two more policemen showed up. By this time, I was out of the vehicle and making conversation with the people. The new officer says, 'I hate to interrupt but don't you guys think she needs medical assistance?'"

Well-wishers have piled into the comments to say they were glad Sidney was safe.

One person said: "I have no idea who you are and glad you are safe but the whole Carrie/dead thing has me laughing so hard hahaha."

A second added: "I don't know you, I only saw this on my thread because someone 'liked' it, but I'm personally glad you weren't hurt any worse. Cars can be replaced. But hopefully you had no MAJOR injuries despite the amount of blood you've got on you."
