Suspect Escapes Court During Sentencing As Officers Chase After Him

CCTV footage captured the moment a drug suspect managed to escape an American courthouse during sentencing, having bolted from the dock.

Nickolaus Garrison, 34, was being sentenced at Highland County Courthouse, Ohio, for possessing methamphetamine, and learnt he was facing six months in jail.

But as Garrison was taken into custody, he was able to break free with police officers in hot pursuit - including Deputy Ben Reno, who threw himself over a bannister to chase Garrison, breaking his ribs in the process as he flew down the stairs.

Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera, one of the other people who went after Garrison, told Local12: "He ran to a hallway, which leads to a stairwell that goes down to outside of the courtroom.

"The deputy, unfortunately, went down the stairs headfirst in an attempt to try and catch him."
