The iconic sails of the Sydney Opera House were illuminated with pictures of those fighting the ongoing bushfires in Australia as a show of solidarity last night.
Pictures were projected onto the famous building showing firefighters and those affected by the horrendous and devastating fires.
It featured a colourful selection of photographs taken by those documenting the brave efforts of firefighters - many of whom are volunteers - and ordinary folk in rural Australia who are battling the blazes.
Rather than focusing on the horrors of the natural catastrophe that has seen half a billion animals and 27 people killed, the display was intended to exhibit some of the more positive stories that have emerged.

After all, amidst all of the tragic events, a lot of people have made a brave and impressive effort.
The CEO of the Sydney Opera House, Louise Herron, said that everyone involved with the venue simply wanted to express their gratitude and support for those involved.
She said: "We are lighting the Opera House sails to show our collective support for everyone affected by these devastating fires and to express our deepest gratitude to the emergency services and volunteers for their incredible efforts and courage.

"As difficult circumstances continue, we want to send message of hope and strength to the people of Australia."
As well as this symbolic gesture, the Opera House is to stage an event that will raise money for the firefighting effort and fire-affected communities.
The comedy gala, called Comedy Steps Up, will raise money for bushfire belief and will take place on the steps and in the forecourt of the Opera House.
It will feature comedians like Joel Creasey, Tim Minchin, Urzila Carlson, and Kitty Flanagan.
All of the proceeds raised will be donated to Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund, the New South Wales Rural Fire Service, WIRES - the Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service - and Wildlife Victoria.
The Sydney Opera House joins other Australians in making a show of solidarity and gratitude to the firefighters.
A bushfire benefit concert has also been announced that will take place on February 26.
'Down to Earth - A Fire and Climate Relief Concert' will see artists such as Gang of Youths, Angus and Julia Stone, and Tash Sultana, amongst others, perform at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne.
The artists released a statement that reads: "Collectively, our hearts go out to the families who have lost loved ones, the fireys who have put their lives on the line and continue to, and the communities across Australia suffering."
