A teacher who has sexual relationships with a number of pupils has been spared jail after the parents of one of her victims asked the judge to give her probation.

Madeline Marx pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery against two students, although there was reportedly a third victim.

She was also accused of 'sending several nude pictures via Snapchat and Instagram' to one of the teens, WHIO reported.

The substitute teacher was arrested at Kettering Fairmont High School, Ohio, in November after a pupil went to the school's administration and told them she was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a pupil.

According to ABC, Marx cried in court and apologised for her crimes. Both of her victims are reported to have been 16 at the time.

Addressing the Montgomery County Common Pleas courtroom on Thursday, she said: "I cannot express how sorry I am for what I've done especially to the victims and their families.

"I'm so sorry."

Judge Steven Danok thanked the 24-year-old for her apology and went on to say that she had 38 letters of support for her - including the parents of one victim asking that she not be sent to jail, but given probation instead.

He said: "The court believes these offenses are not likely to recur. This is extremely significant to the court, that Ms. Marx has shown genuine remorse for the offense.

"We want you to be successful on probation, we want you to be successful on community control."

Montgomery County Assistant Prosecutor Dylan Smearcheck said: "Because Ms Marx plead guilty in this case, the victims were spared reliving this through a trial,' he said.

"Additionally, Ms Marx is going to have to register for the rest of her life as a sex offender and will never be able to teach again."

Marx is now a registered sex offender, and will be under probation for five years, if, at any point, she is found to be in violation of the terms of her probation she could be sent to jail.
