Teenager Lands Interview After Rejecting Being Rejected For Aldi Job

Teenager Lands Interview After Rejecting Being Rejected For Aldi Job

Confused? Well, she was told she hadn't been successful, but refused to accept that

A frustrated teenage jobseeker claims that she managed to bag herself an interview with Aldi after responding to a rejection email telling them she rejected their rejection.

If that seems a bit strange, that's because it is. The upshot of all of this is that Jessica Irving from Western Sydney managed to get a group interview, presumably because the supermarket chain appreciated her determination and refusal to take no for an answer.

When she received the rejection, she outlined her skills and argued that she was more than qualified for the job, adding: "I reject your rejection."

It's a pretty wild tactic, but it actually appears to have paid off.

Jessica did not take Aldi's rejection lying down.

The Australian, who has been seeking employment for a while, received an email telling her that she hadn't been successful in her application for the position of Retail Assistant.

The email from Aldi said: "Thank you for taking the time to submit your application for the position of Retail Assistant at Aldi.

"After careful consideration we regret to advise that you have not proceeded to the next stage in this instance."

Ordinarily, that would be that. You'd take it on the chin and keep looking. Not 18-year-old Jessica, though.

She responded to them, writing: "Although my application was rejected, I have been applying for jobs over a year now with no success.

"My skills are on par with your store, with the ability to be exceptionally fast paced to scan items like every Aldi Team Member does.

"I pride myself on my impressive sale skills and can describe myself to be very persuasive and show effectiveness.

"So persuasive in fact, that I would like to confidentially reject your rejection. Thank you for letting me be a part of the team, I won't let you down. See you on Monday."

After she sent that, she received an email telling her not to go to the store, because she'd not got the job.

However, another followed on Tuesday that invited her to a group interview.

Talk about persistence paying off, eh?

Irving told Daily Mail Australia: "Suddenly this morning I woke up and they had selected me for a group interview.

"I guess a different manager - they must have been impressed by my approach.

"When applying for the job I thought I'd be a really strong candidate. I even waited almost a year to apply due to their 18-plus rule.

"It's one of my local stores so being rejected was kind of a huge bummer and I didn't want to apply for a store so far away so I thought I'd give it a go and it worked, surprisingly."

She's due to attend the group interview this Saturday. Let's hope we get an update on whether she's successful or not.
