The Daily Telegraph Has Won April Fool's Day With Polar Bear Story

...It could happen though.

It's official, The Daily Telegraph has won April Fool's Day 2017.

The paper's website pushed an article out this morning claiming that there had been sightings of polar bears in Scotland.

The article warned any would-be visitors to Scotland that not only would they have midges to avoid, but there might be "an altogether more terrifying, not so wee beastie lurking in the woods."

While most people seemed to catch on to the fact it was an April Fool's Day prank, others were not so quick on the uptake - some even managed to bring Brexit into it.

Surprising people didn't catch on straight away really, especially when you take this rather colourful paragraph into account:

"It's not inconceivable, say scientists, that as the island becomes overcrowded, the bears could one day head south to Glasgow. Polar bears, the most carnivorous members of the bear family, would likely be able to survive by scavenging in the city's bins for discarded haggis, kebabs and other meat products."

...I mean, come on!

However, not everything in the article was made up.

By 2050, polar bear numbers are expected to decline by as much as 30 percent as their habitat diminishes due to climate change. Unless we pull our fingers out and do something about it, that is.

The Telegraph aren't the only ones who've been smashing April Fool's Day this morning.

Leeds First Direct Arena went with a fake listing for "Nearly Jedward: The UK's leading Jedward tribute act", with tickets priced at £73 quid. While language app Duolingo opted to introduce a language course in 'emoji'. Amazon even claimed to be introducing a version of its Alexa voice recognition technology capable of understanding your pets.

Good show everyone, until next year.
